Further Vocational Qualification in Mental Health and Intoxicant Abuse Welfare Work (1.8.2018)

The work of a holder of further vocational qualification in mental health and intoxicant abuse welfare work is professional work with clients in preventive work, rehabilitative work, or work involving treatment, promoting recovery, reducing harms, or supporting housing services in the social and health care sector.

The compulsory units of further vocational qualification in mental health and intoxicant abuse welfare work provide capabilities for professional work with clients in mental health, and intoxicant abuse welfare work with clients as well as their local community and family networks.

The optional units have been structured so that in order to complete them, students must have first mastered the contents of the compulsory units of the further qualification in mental health and intoxicant abuse welfare work. The optional units advance and expand the students' competence and provide capabilities for working with clients, actors and communities using different tools and approaches.

Qualification holders base their work on ethically sustainable principles. Qualification holders know how to work in a customer-oriented manner with respect to human beings. In their work, they are able to use the knowledge base and work methods of the field as well as utilise their knowledge of the legislation and service system of the industry.

Qualification holders are able to justify the decisions and choices they make in their work and assess the impacts of these decisions as members of a multiprofessional work community. Qualification holders know how to look after their well-being at work and use work instruction and training for support in their work. In order to develop the quality of their work, qualification holders need capacity and willingness to engage in continuous assessment of their own and their work community's activities, self-development, and internal entrepreneurship.

The scope of the further vocational qualification in mental health and intoxicant abuse welfare work is 150 competence points. The qualification is composed of compulsory units (100 competence points) and optional units (50 competence points).

The compulsory qualification modules are: The implementation of proficiency in mental health and intoxicant abuse welfare work (50 competence points) and Working networks in the local community and of family members (50 competence points). The optional units, of which the candidates select at least 50 competence points, include Acting in digital interaction (25 competence points), Acting in an expanding community (25 competence points) and Using the approaches of mental health and intoxicant abuse welfare (25 competence points). As another optional unit, the candidates may complete a unit with the scope of at least 25 from a vocational qualification, another further vocational qualification or a specialist vocational qualification.
