Vocational Qualification in Pharmaceutics (1.8.2018) |
Pharmaceutics is both part of the healthcare system and an industry. Pharmaceutics is responsible for the development, research, manufacture, logistics, and distribution of pharmaceutics and for the guidance for and monitoring of the correct use of pharmaceuticals. Mutual respect, cooperation, and expertise between different professional groups and actors are emphasised in pharmaceutics. Work is carried out in a client-oriented manner and for the benefit of the client.
Pharmaceutical technicians with a vocational qualification in pharmaceutics are able to work in multiprofessional cooperation in different tasks in the field of pharmaceutics, using their vocational competence in information technology, pharmaceutical logistics, and quality work. They have special expertise and the vocational skills required by working life either for working in a pharmacy, hospital pharmacy, the pharmaceutical industry, or pharmaceutical wholesale business and diverse special expertise, acquired through optional units, in the use of automation equipment, manufacturing of pharmaceuticals, marketing and display, application of information technology, maintenance of a product group, and working in the online service of a pharmacy. Pharmaceutical technicians are able to comply with the national and international laws and regulations on pharmaceutics. They are able to observe patient and client safety, their vocational ethics, ergonomics, and sustainable development and take care of their wellbeing at work. They are able to take into account the confidentiality and occupational safety regulations of the field, business objectives, and the company's profitability in their work. Pharmaceutical technicians are able to use information and communication technologies and their language proficiency diversely in their work in the different tasks of the field of pharmaceutics and in the customer service related to the work of pharmaceutical technicians.

The scope of a vocational qualification in pharmaceutics is 180 competence points. The qualification is composed of vocational units (145 competence points) and common units (35 competence points).
The vocational qualification in pharmaceutics includes two compulsory units, Pharmaceutical logistics and Information technology, and two competence areas.
The two competence areas and one qualification title of the vocational qualification in pharmaceutics:
- competence area in pharmaceutical services (pharmaceutical technician)
- competence area in pharmaceutics (pharmaceutical technician).
The compulsory module in the competence area of pharmaceutical services is Pharmacy work.
For their qualification, students choose one of the three units in the competence area of pharmaceutics, which are Working at a hospital pharmacy, Working in the pharmaceutical industry, and Working in the pharmaceutical wholesale business. The scope of the units in both competence areas is 45 competence points.
The common units are Communication and interaction skills, Competence in mathematics and natural sciences, and Society and working life skills. The scope of optional studies in the qualification is 30 competence points.
