Vocational qualification in Information and Communications Technology (1.8.2020)

Holders of a vocational qualification in information and communications technology have the vocational skills required for carrying out tasks in the field of information and communications technology and are able to work co-operatively in environments related to information and communications technology. Qualification holders know how to use the vocabulary specific to the field, find out the customer’s needs and make customer-oriented decisions in tasks related to information and communications technology. They ensure that the final result meets the requirements set for the work.

The scope of the vocational qualification in information and communications technology is 180 competence points. The qualification is composed of vocational units (145 competence points) and common units (35 competence points).

Of the vocational units, the scope of compulsory units is 70-115 competence points and the scope of optional units 30-75 competence points. The vocational qualification in information and communications technology comprises the following qualification titles:

A unit based on local competence requirements
The unit contains competence that meets local labour market needs. The competence must be suitable for the needs of more than one workplace. The education provider names the unit on the basis of operational entities in the world of work and determines its scope in competence points. The education provider defines the vocational competence requirements and the assessment of competence in a similar manner as for vocational units.

A unit from another vocational upper secondary qualification, further qualification or specialist qualification
A unit from another vocational upper secondary qualification, further qualification or specialist qualification may be included in the qualification. Regardless of the scope of the unit to be included in the qualification, its scope in this case is at maximum 15 competence points.

Common units

Viestintä- ja vuorovaikutusosaamisen laajuus on vähintään 11 osaamispistettä, matemaattis-luonnontieteellisen osaamisen laajuus on vähintään 6 osaamispistettä ja yhteiskunta- ja työelämäosaamisen laajuus on vähintään 9 osaamispistettä. Lisäksi yhteisiin tutkinnon osiin tulee sisältyä valinnaisia osaamistavoitteita opiskelijan valitsemasta yhdestä tai useammasta yhteisestä tutkinnon osasta ja tutkinnon osan osa-alueelta tai osa-alueilta siten, että yhteisten tutkinnon osien 35 osaamispisteen laajuus täyttyy.

Optional targeted learning outcomes of common units

The optional targeted learning outcomes of common units may be other optional targeted learning outcomes determined in the qualification requirements or decided by the education provider that support the outcomes determined for that unit and its parts in the qualification requirements. The student's prior learning may also be included in optional targeted learning outcomes if it supports the targeted learning outcomes determined for that unit and its parts in the qualification requirements.
